I made sure I had VC9, thread safe, builds throughout (thanks to Mitron for finding the last known VC9 build of imagemagick).Apache was crashing even running phpinfo. I switched off fastcgi and all seems to be well. I only even thought of trying that because of the comment at the top of this blogg mentioning that FastCGI is usually run non-thread safe.Thanks to all those on here who helped steer me to a working installation.
